John McDermott.

John Mc Dermott is a life long painter establishing himself as a naturally talented artist, briefly attending the Glasgow School of Art on scholarship. These studies were cut short when he decided to join The Royal Navy, with whom he remained for the next 27 years seeing service all over the world and in many conflict zones. His time in the Navy rarely prevented him from painting and exhibiting regulary, including several succesful solo shows. He has worked with many artists over the years, notably John Craxton RA, from the same genre as Lucian Freud and Graham Sutherland. McDermott has received many commissions, most prominently for the Inns of Court London,The Barbican, Bernard Morgan House, and the celebrated 12 foot long watercolour, ‘London AD260′ now on permanent display at the Old Bailey in London.

He gained international recognition for the sell out ‘Falklands 25′ exhibition, in June 2007. These works address the trauma of conflict, focussing on his own experiences and the suffering of others. Monies from this exhibition were donated to SAMA (South Atlantic Medal Association) Service charity.

John continues to paint works focussing on the self-destructive nature of man, while offering hope of the survivability of the human spirit. These works are recently described in his 2008/9 ‘Eden series’ and his most recent work to date.
